Stephen the Great’s Oak
About 500 years ago, Moldavia’s most important ruler of all
times, Stephen the Great (now sanctified), went to battle against the
Tatars near the village of Borzesti, defeated them and chased them
away from his country. And as it was the custom back then, after each
successful battle, they would build a church or a monastery. Stephen
the Great built a small wooden church at the outskirts of the village
near a young oak, where he used to rest during the battle.
