English Folklore
There are two important apparitions of the monument on folklore, the first one is that, according to a famous historian from the middle age, the monument's constrution was made by Merlin, the wizard from the Tales of King Arthur. Advised by Merlin to use it as a memorial for deaths in battle, a king of the 5th century called Aurelius Ambrosius send soldiers to bring the rocks to England, but the failed, but Merlin used his magic skills to send the rocks to England, where after, the king Aurelius were buried inside the "Giants' Ring of Stonehenge". This story spread widely, appearing in more and less elaborate form in adaptations of his work in the folklore of different cultures.
The access through the time
When the Stonehenge first opened, it was possible to climb on the rocks and even walk among them, but after cases o erosion, the access to the monument was roped off. Today it is now allowed to touch the stones, but they can walk around them. The access is allowed during the summer and winter solstice, and the spring and autumn equinox. If you want to visit it in another moment, you have to make a special booking.
