Englewood youths gained hands-on work experience at local businesses this past summer through an enrichment
program managed by the Zone, a youth-based service of Bergen Family Center, and the Englewood Chamber of
Commerce.
Now in its fourth year, this
summer’s enrichment program
was for Englewood residents
entering junior and senior years
in high school.
It is a partnership funded by
the City of Englewood and
managed by the Zone, a youth
based service of Bergen Family
Center and Englewood Cham-
ber of Commerce (ECC).
The program provided the
students with a hands-on work
experience and guidance that
will help them compete in
today’s job market. The Zone, a
youth-based service program of
Bergen Family Center, received
60 applications and accepted 32
students.

local businesses and nonprofits
selected students from among
the pool of applicants. Appren-

tices worked 25 hours weekly,
Wednesday, July 5, through Fri-
day, Aug. 11, including 2 hour-
long business skills workshop
each Wednesday. Each student
received a stipend of $1,200.
Twenty businesses and non-
profits, members of Englewood
Chamber of Commerce, provid-
ed positions for these students.
The six-week program con-
cluded with a graduation and
certification ceremony held to
honor participating students
and businesses on Friday, Aug.
11, at noon at Englewood Hos-
pital and Medical Center’s Chi-
ang Auditorium.
Each student received a Cer-
tificate of Achievement from
City Council President Wayne
Hamer and Mayor Frank Huttle
III, as well as a Certificate from
the New Jersey Legislature.
