questions posed by the interviewer , which basically shows that he is the one in focus and everybody is concentrated mainly on him . The audience and Jimmy are listening to him , and Jimmy is consistently responding to Ryan ’ s narrative ; he listens to Ryan ’ s stories and poses questions relevant to the stories . This exchange is done with the intention of revealing as much information about the story as possible , particularly background information in order to make the story a lot more comprehensible for those who are hearing it for the first time . When the two get overly excited about their conversation , particularly when they ’ re talking about how Ryan ’ s baby calls him his mama , and then Jimmy interjects and they start talking about this book that Jimmy wrote which is called Your Baby ’ s First Word Will be DADA . So , they ’ re overlapping each other , which doesn ’ t necessarily make the audience confused , but it does show their level of enthusiasm because during those overlaps and interruptions , a rise in volume is noted as one tries to talk over the other . They ’ re both trying to get their points across because they both have something to contribute to the conversation . There is speaker support present from both Jimmy and Ryan , mainly when they chime in to comment on the story and its meaning and when they repeat what the other said as though they ’ re reflecting on what has been said . This constant repetition is noted throughout the interview , and it plays an important role in making the entire conversation flow better and makes sense to the audience . There are also various slight pauses that I ’ ve noted , which are very frequent and characteristic of talk shows , and their purpose is to give the audience some time to respond . So , when Jimmy is telling a joke , he pauses for a second midway to give the audience some time to take it all in and to comprehend , and then after he finishes his joke , there is another pause where the audience erupts in boisterous laughter .
The entire conversation feels like a game between the interviewer and the interviewee , as they regularly take turns and contribute some new piece of information to the story . Although
