marriage, girls partying too hard, girls showing too much skin. Furthermore, the article on
ArmenPress stated that during the press conference on the World Population Day, Garik
Hayrapetyan also mentioned the reasons behind underage impregnations, stating that “this issue
comes from the fact that the underage do not get corresponding sexual education in time. In
Armenia this problem should be addressed as well. The world practice shows that the proper
sexual education prevents these indicators.” I am not the only one concerned about the future of
our country, and sexual education is one of the first steps towards a better, more informed, future
for our children.
Numerous Armenians, particularly the older generation, will not go in accordance with
what I have to say; they will not support my argument, nor will they stand by me if I try to justify
my reasons. But the point is that I wholeheartedly believe that the introduction of sex education
in Armenian schools will make our younger children more sex literate, which will result in them
making the correct choices for themselves. Our biggest concern should be to educate our
children with the truthful and necessary information, and we should not be so concerned about
what others will think of us if they hear us talking about sex. It’s better to be humiliated for a
couple of minutes, than to be devastated for an entire lifetime.
