Sinara Isoyan E&C 141-A Persuasive Writing Instructor: Dr. Ken Monteith Date: March 3, 2017 Persuasive Paper Save Lives, Teach Sex Talking about sex may seem utterly disgraceful and writing about it may be even more so, but I’m going to risk that anyway in hopes that my argument will prove worthy. Children growing up in a country like Armenia, a country that takes pride in being conservative, are not taught even the basics of sex education. Of course, there are so many other countries out there that are deprived of this subject, but since I don’t know a lot about those other countries, the focus of this paper will be on Armenia and how the introduction of sex education in Armenia’s schools will benefit the country as a whole. It’s a well-known fact that schools play a vital role in the development and education of children, and the subjects offered and taught will remain with the children as they grow older. Everything that children learn in school will, to an extent, remain in their brains for a very long time and all that information will be the basis of their future development. Armenia’s schools consider subjects like mathematics, physics, and biology to be of such high importance and completely ignore other absolutely crucial subjects, like sex education among many others. School subjects that are stimulating to the brain, like chess, are actually offered in schools and have recently been made mandatory for everyone to study. I’m not saying that these subjects are unnecessary, because in reality, stimulating the brain is wonderful and probably will make children smarter and sharper in the long run. I’m saying that if a school can offer such a challenging subject like chess, then it can just as easily offer a significant subject that will develop and educate children as they mature; a subject that can and will make children make the right decisions, a subject that will help in the prevention of 1
