štrbSké pleSo
What I considered as one of the wonder in Slovakia is Štrbské pleso, it is a lake in The High Tatras.
Štrbské pleso belonged to Sentiváni family but in 1901 bought it Hungarian state. Sentiváni used it
as place for relax. For tourists and guests he offered fishing and rowing. On bank of lake was
boating dock and natural swimming pool. First accident on the Štrbské pleso was in 1884 when 4
people turned around on the boat and they drowned. After this accident they introduced stricter
measures. In the end of 20th century was rowing on the lake disabled, but after year 2007 has
been restored. Lake was not served only for relax. It served for mined the ice until the year 1902.
There are some documents which showed that ice was ordering by Vienna royal curt. The Tatra ice
was big competition for Norwegain ice which was imported in middle Europe.
Štrbské pleso is the second largest lake in Slovakia, maximum depth is 20 meters and it is 640
meters long and 600 meters wide. About 155 days of year is Štrbské pleso covered with the ice.
Štrbské pleso is for me the best place for relax and for sort the thoughts. You can take there long
walk around the whole lake and I love walks in fresh air so that is one of the reason why I so much
love Štrbské pleso.
