REASONS TO VISIT HIDALGO

1. Real del Monte

Real del Monte is a Magical Town with a great mining tradition. Its history, determined by the extraction of metals such as gold, silver and obsidian from pre-Hispanic times to the Colony, is present in guided tours, stories and legends. It is located only 12 kilometers northeast of Pachuca and it was after Independence, with the arrival of Englishmen to the mines and the creation of the Real del Monte Company and Pachuca, as the current identity of this emblematic mountain town was configured.Enjoy this picturesque destination, you will love it, but wear comfortable shoes to walk its cobbled streets and a good little jacket to enjoy each of its corners.

You can not miss the Mina de Acosta museum, here you can admire an authentic silver vein.

The next stop must be at the Laboral Hospital, founded in 1907 to serve the miners who suffered accidents. And if you want more, then take a tour of the Mine of Difficulty, the most important historical complex of Real del Monte now converted into a museum site.

And finally you can not miss visiting the Paste Museum, so you can learn about the history of this delicious dish brought by the English and to top it off, enter the English Pantheon, there you will find tombs of great artistic value and the atmosphere that is lived there.

2. Archaeological zones

The state of Hidalgo has a rich Toltec heritage that is worth discovering through its archaeological sites.

Our first stop is in Tula, where you can learn the best kept secrets of this empire. The Atlanteans, imposing, look towards the horizon and guard the upper part of the temple of Tla huiz cal pan te cuhtli. With almost five meters of height, these structures carved in basaltic stone are the main attraction of the city. It is believed that their location is due to the fact that they held a shrine dedicated to Quetzalcoatl, and that they will wake up from calm when an enemy threatens the city.

The walk is totally worth it, you have to know the Atlantes and everything in this area, notice, to the north you will find the beautiful Quemado Palace, separated from the Atlanteans by a corridor, where there are 13 human figures engraved in stone. To complement the visit, do not forget to visit the Jorge R. Acosta Museum, where the Chaac-mool, among many other pieces, await you.

Now if you want to keep track of the ancient civilizations make your itinerary to also visit the archaeological site of Xihuingo, in the municipality of Tepapulco. Another option for a walk is Huapalcalco, in Tulancingo.
