boarding trip can become stressful and uncomfortable if you don’t properly
prepare. We’re here to make sure that doesn’t happen.
A high-quality wetsuit will keep you comfortable even in the chilliest
wind and water. Look for a four mm to seven mm wetsuit made
specifically for cold climates. While thick wetsuits will keep you warm,
remember you may have to sacrifice some mobility.
Do you expect to paddle in water colder than 45 degrees? If so, opt for
a drysuit Drysuits have a nylon waterproof layer and airtight seals
around your wrists and ankles to block water. Although, you still have
to layer up because drysuits provide zero insulation.
Stay warm with a thermal shirt and pants. SUPing in cold water is no
small feat and often reserved for experienced paddlers (if you’re
planning a cold weather SUP trip, then we’re probably talking about
you!) The right top and bottoms will keep you warm and prevent
overheating from your wetsuit.
Neoprene booties and gloves are key to regulating your body
temperature in chilly conditions. Look for booties two mm to eight mm
thick to provide the perfect layer of insulation against the cold water.
Find gloves with grips made specifically for SUP or kayak.
