Danica: What are the differences between America and Serbia that you noticed?

Ms. Beth Wendt: Oh, my Goodness, well, the weather is much better here. Everyone walks everywhere, so when I go back to the United States I have a bit of culture shock, because you cannot survive in the United States without a car. Here I probably walk 10 to 15 miles a day. That's the big difference. Grocery stores - we have Walmart, it has everything. You can buy anything from tires for your car to lobster tails. So coming here, it’s a little bit different having to find different stores to buy things. Those, and Serbians touch each other more. Americans have a space bubble. We don't like people to come within a certain amount of space, where Serbians are always hugging and touching and kissing. So those are the big differences.

Danica: What are some of the things you particularly like about Serbia?

Ms. Beth Wendt: I love that I can walk everywhere. I love how friendly everyone is. I love how open you are to new cultures and learning new things. I have lived in Korea and China and Serbians are by far the friendliest people. If I call a Serbian friend and I say: "Are you busy?", even if they are busy they will not say that. They will help me. A Serbian will stop everything to help a friend.
