DEFINITION OF TERMS:
Phytochemicals- any of various biologically active compounds found in plants.
Terpenes- any of a large group of volatile unsaturated hydrocarbons found in the essential oils of plants, especially conifers and citrus trees. They are based on a cyclic molecule having the formula C10H16.
Saponins- a toxic compound which is present in soapwort and makes foam when shaken with water.
Polysaccharides- a carbohydrate whose molecules consist of a number of sugar molecules bonded together.
Resveratrol- a polyphenol compound found in certain plants and in red wine that has antioxidant properties and has been investigated for possible anticarcinogenic effects.
Hpatoprotective- antihepatotoxicity is the ability to prevent damage to the liver. This is opposite to the hepatotoxicity.
