Morinda citrifolia (Noni) contains health-benefitting alkaloids (e.g. xeronine), polysaccharides (e.g. glucuronic acid, galactose, arabinose, rhamose, glycoside, trisaccharide fatty acid ester), scopoletin, vitamins and minerals (e.g. magnesium, iron, potassium, selenium, zinc, copper, sulfur, vitamin C).Its polysaccharide content is responsible for immunomodulatory, antibacterial, anti-tumor or anti-cancer properties. On the other hand, scopoletin possesses vasodilatory, blood pressure lowering, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergy, and analgesic properties. Noni’s anthraquinone content is responsible for antiseptic, antibacterial, anti-cancer, and gastroprotective activities. Its glycosides also possess anti-cancer property. Morindin and morindone have antibacterial activity. Xeronine may help enhance enzyme activity and protein structure.
6. Centella asiatica (Centella) consists of bioactive terpene acids identified as asiatic acid and madecassic acid with their respective glycosides, asiaticoside and madecassoside. Gotu kola is known for its adaptogenic and cognitive enhancing activity. In Ayurvedic practive, it is known to be a blood purifier. It is used to help improve memory and mental function, prevent cognitive decline, enhance blood circulation, promote wound healing or skin regeneration, and relieve stress.
