Can ADHD be treated?

As a matter of fact, yes! But, it takes time since there is no “quick fix” or “cure” for ADHD. It just has to be managed well, whether through medication or other things, which include that the family and the person suffering from ADHD be knowledgeable and aware about the nature of the disorder and how it can be managed. Positive parenting helps a great deal with helping a child or an adolescent cope with ADHD in the sense that academic or work success increases. However, this in itself is essential, but not sufficient to the treatment of ADHD; medication is the key to alleviating the symptoms because the disorder, as mentioned previously, is related to disrupted cognitive structure in the brain.

ADHD medication doe not cure the disorder but rather alleviates the symptoms. Moreover, psychotherapy and social skills training address any problems related to depression or self-esteem issues resulting from ADHD. All of these types of treatment complement one another.

ADHD is one of the most complex cognitive disorders, and its treatment depends on the individual; some might respond to medication only, while others would need medication with a psychotherapy, and so on.
