Hazem: This is purely cultural, you can see that even TV shows portray people with mental health issues as freaks that we should avoid, while we should be doing the opposite. We must support people with mental health issues the same way we do to the people with physical health issues, and maybe more. And it’s all because of the lack of awareness specifically among the youth.
Salma: I have read that bipolar- disorder does not have a treatment, is that correct?
Hazem: Unfortunately there’s no cure for bipolar disorders, but treatment and therapy session can still control the symptoms, and make the patient mood more stable
Salma: How can the professors and staff deal with this disorder that surely makes the academic progress very difficult?
Hazem: What professors and strangely even colleges most of the time forget, is that university students undergo a very new kind of pressure caused by the new expectations and responsibilities on their shoulder. They regard it as something that everyone once faced which is exactly why it is precisely hard to understand why any teacher might not understand the pressure put on students if they were once in their shoe. Put in mind that this pressure is only going to be harder if you’re already fighting the demons in your head. This is why teachers and professors should be trained to spot symptoms of disorders so they can alter their methodologies with them accordingly and also of course, guide the student to the needed help.
