DISCERNING BIBLICAL TRUTH IN THE 21ST CENTURY CHRISTIANITY Text: 2Tim.3 [16] All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: [17] that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works Overview We perceive that this Text is sets in the context of discerning of Biblical Truth. We also understand that inspiration preceded the writing of the Bible. The contention is that while inspiration to write another Bible has ceased however the revelation knowledge to explain the inspired text is ongoing. We need to understand how truth in Biblical terms is dispensed off in the 21st Century Christianity. Truth versus Falsehood In Biblical teaching, these elements are set in opposition. By definition, “truth” means being factually accurate. Truth is also a virtue that characterizes people that share the character of God. “Truth is that which is constant and unchangeable. It is something on which someone can rely, which will prove to be true in the future.” The Psalmist was known for sharing his thought about the virtue and desired the Lord to endow him with it. Psalm 86:11 Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name. Psalm 43:3 Send out your light and your truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling! Psalm 25:5 Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day Psalm 15:2 He that walked uprightly, and worked righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart Psalm 5:9 For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue.
