In serious cases of gambling addiction, the user may be left with no money in order to gamble. This can lead to other bad habits such as stealing money, or borrowing money they would not be able to repay unless they win. Many gamblers have stolen money from their spouses or friends in order to continue their gambling addictions. This will unsurprisingly lead to divorces and friendships being destroyed. As for borrowing money, that in itself is another addiction, since the user is taking the risk of borrowing money without being sure about whether they will be able to pay it back in the future or not. Fortunately, like any other addiction, it is possible to fight it.

Common methods to fight gambling addiction include: Cognitive therapy, behavior therapy, and medications such as antidepressants. Additionally, it would be beneficial to attend focus groups with other people who share the same addiction, along with people who have beaten the addiciton before.
