In this article we will be talking about pay salaries, working hours and NHS nurses not getting paid enough. This is a huge topic at the moment and we would to like discuss this topic with you. We’ve been wondering why nurses haven’t been getting paid a lot of money considering the amazing and life altering work that they do. We have looked into this issue and we have found out many interesting facts.
An English beginner nurse in band 1 gets around £15,251 annually, which is less than an Aldi store assistant who receives roughly £15,762 annually. To become an Aldi store assistant, you do not need to attend college/university unlike that of becoming a nurse.
A beginner nurse in Scotland gets £16,132 a year.
The highest band is band 9 and if you work long for NHS and you’re in band 9 you get £101,437 a year but this is a promoted post in Scotland. The majority of nurses do not recieve a wage as high as this.
A Lanark Grammar student told us her thoughts regarding the NHS:
“ I think band 1 nurses (beginner nurses) don’t get paid enough as what they are paid is roughly close to the minimum wage.”
These statistics show that our system in Britain is failing. We think that in time, people won't want to be nurses because of the pay issue. We need to address it now. Come on UK and Scottish Government!!
