PLUMBING SECTOR
ASAP is providing training in Plumbing Skill set. Plumbing covers trade areas such as water, sanitary, drainage, building services and other specialized areas. The workforce is involved in plumbing services ranging from domestic maintenance to construction and aesthetic design. The demand for plumbers usually depends on the level of activity in the building industry. Unlike other business trades, the activity is not a one time job but requires maintenance and renovation as per the requirements of the customer.
Asap is providing skill training for the below mentioned 3 job roles
• Plumber( General)- PSC / Q 0104 – Level 3
• Plumber( General) Assistant- PSC / Q 0102 – Level 2
• Plumber( General) Helper- PSC / Q 0101 – Level 1
Internships have been provided to students with leading industry players like Landmark and CERA. The actual requirement for plumbing work in industry for internship and the vacation period of students are the major considerations while scheduling internships. Assessments were carried out through assessment agencies such as the Manipal City and Guilds and Cindrel Infotech. Orientations were given to assessors before final assessment in order to give them a clear understanding of the target student group that they are going to assess. Placement was offered to students in reputed firms like SOBHA Developers, CERA and JAQUAR and around 60 students accepted the placement offer.
Business Advisory Committee Meeting
The first Business Advisory Committee Meeting for Plumbing sector was convened at at Mascot Hotel, Thiruvananthapuram on 15th June 2015. Shri George Thomas K( Additional Secretary and Team Leader, ASAP), Shri. P Mohamed Riyas( Head Strategic Design, ASAP), Programme Managers- Smt. Salini V R, Ms. Ambili E Kurian, Ms Archana KeshavanKutty and invited BAC members constituted the discussion panel.
Ready employment and possible job opportunities for plumbers in Middle East, improvements in hands on training of students for better placement, and safety and quality concerns were discussed in the meeting. It was also pointed out that job opportunities for women plumbers demanded attention as ASAP have students in that category. In the other issues that demanded immediate attention such as standardizing the training and internship hours, evaluation by quality assurers, setting up of quality plumbing labs industry experts offered their support.
In continuance to the first BAC committee meeting, a second one was convened at Sopanam Hall, Mascot Hotel, Thiruvananthapuram on 21st August 2015 with a vision to analyze and implement the decisions that were taken during the first meeting and to implement the planned programmes. Standardization of training content on a workshop mode and creating a training pool of desired quality were viewed as the tasks that needed priority.
