An Attempt To Capture The Presentation Made by Shri Rajashekharan Nair State Information Officer, on RTI - 2 I f the applicant asks for a sample of a material for scrutiny, then the Public Information Officer may demand a sum fit to cover the expense of the sample if it is a considerable amount. Negligible amounts will probably go uncharged following the discretion of the officer. The officer is to issue an acknowledgement to the applicant claiming to have re- ceived the a pplication. The applicant is to receive the reply to the application within 30 days from the date of submitting it. If the office delays in supplying the applicant with the information, then the applicant can file for remedial measures stating that the office is reluctant to provide the information. Section 7 of the Act states the conditions under which an application can be rejected. When an application is received, the officer is to first check if the application includes all the primary necessities, name, address, relevant questions, and if the application fee has been remitted or not. The officer is then to check if the information sought through the application is available from his office and if not the officer can transfer the application to the department or authority who will have the information and intimate the applicant. If the office will be able to provide the applicant with information for a set of questions in the application and another office is responsible for data related to the rest of the ques- tions, a copy of the entire application will be forwarded to that department or authority to respond to the questions related to them. In case of an application which contains questions pertaining to more than two authorities, then the officer needn’t forward the application to the concerned authorities and instead may intimate the applicant to cate- gorize the questions and submit them separately to the concerned department. If the data asked for in the application is concerned to a different department, but, is available in the office, then the office can provide the information to the applicant without second thoughts.
