Kudumbashree Women Construction Teams, the concept developed and designed with the support of HUDCO trains women having civil engineering background as consultants. Diploma/ ITI holders in civil engineering are provided site supervision training & unskilled/semi skilled women labourers (masons) are given skill upgradation training in construction techniques. The training module is developed by Laurie Baker Center for Habitat Studies and training is provided by KITCO, Kochi, & Archana Women’s Center, Kottayam. The objective is to upgrade, diversify and cer- tify the skills of labourers in new technol- ogies and emerging standards in the construction industry. As a pilot, the pro- ject has been implemented in Ernakulam and based on its success will be replicat- ed in further cities. Kudumbashree Travels, Kudumbashree Wellness Centres, Amrutham Nutrimix units, Training Groups, the enterprise of training specialists from the community network of Kudumbashree, Kudumbashree Accounts & Audit Service Society(KASS), a home grown enterprise to ensure proper account keeping in the community network etc. are some of the special enterprises launched by the Kudumbashree Mission for the upliftment of the women. The Mission gives priority to the concept of Local Economic Development (LED) – local produc- tion, catering to local consumption to increase the economic activity within the local areas for micro enterprise development. In order to facilitate this concept Kudumbashree Mission ensure the involvement of the community and LSGs to analyze the market demand and the develop- ment of products and services accordingly. Kudumbashree envisions sustainable economic de- velopment through the development of Micro Enterprise units. By providing skill upgrade trainings, self-employment opportunities and infrastructural devel- opment through wage employment schemes the Kudumbashree Mission is preparing grounds for further development of successful micro enterprises. Kudumbashree is committed to giving necessary resource support and facilitate forward / backward linkages etc, to promote micro- entrepreneurship among poor women thereby making them self-sustainable and independent.
