A Career in Film/Television Industry
for Graduates

T he Film and Television industry has been growing over the years due to the fast
expansion taking place in the field. With the advancement of Technology, highly qualified person-
nel are needed in these industries. Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune and Satyajit
Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), Kolkata, are the leading educational institutions in the
government sector, in the art and craft of film making and television production. The Diploma and
Certificate Programmes offered by these institutions have been widely accepted. The Institutes
offer 3 year/2 year/1 year Diploma/Certificate Programmes for Graduates. Some of the Postgradu-
ate diploma programmes of FTII, Pune are considered equivalent to a Master's degree awarded by
Indian Universities.
The 3 year Post Graduate Diploma Courses in Film offered at FTII and SRFTI include (i) Direction
and Screenplay writing (ii) Cinematography (iii) Editing and (iv) Sound Recording & Sound Design.
FTII also offers 3 year PG Diploma in Art Direction & Production Design while SRFTI also offers 3
year PG Diploma in (i) Producing for Film & Television and (ii) Animation Cinema. Two-year Post
Graduate Diploma Courses in Acting and One-Year Post Graduate Certificate Course in Feature film
Screenplay Writing are also available at FTII. The Diploma programmes in Direction & Screenplay
Writing, Sound Recording & Sound design, Editing, Cinematography, Art Direction & Production
Design and Acting offered at FTII, Pune are considered equivalent to a Master's degree awarded
by Indian Universities.
Several Television related Diploma/Certificate Programmes are available at these two institutes.
SRFTI, Kolkata conducts Diploma Courses of 2 years duration related to for Electronic and Digital
Media which include (i) Producing (ii) Cinematography (iii) Editing (iv) Sound (v) Writing and (vi)
Electronic and Digital Media Management. The One year Television related Certificate courses at
FTII, Pune include (i) TV Direction (ii) Electronic Cinematography (iii) Video Editing and (iv) Sound
Recording and Television Engineering.
Those with a Bachelor's Degree in any discipline are eligible for admission to all film related cours-
es, except Sound Recording & Sound Design and Art Direction & Production Design. Applicant
should have a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with Physics as a subject at senior secondary
(10+2) level for admission to Sound Recording & the Sound Design course, while Bachelor’s de-
gree/ or equivalent Diploma in Applied arts, Architecture, Painting, Sculpture, Interior Design or
