Working better as a director, giving constructive feedback
Working proffessionally with music and Sound being organised.
To work on helping
I knew that my animation would be even more effective with sound and music. I
specifically wanted natural sounds to match the idea of presenting an alien world
to children (night.) A world which remains a mystery as a child. I reached out to
music and sounds once finally settling on my Animatic. I want to ensure my work
is organised so I spent a day organising two google doc folders where Music and
Sound could use as a hub for their work. I created several sections of my concept
art, animatic, storyboards, character bios and deadlines. I also asked the music
and sound students to leave versions in this place so that I their work was always
backed up and we could effectively communicate easily. Taking the time to organise
this, even though it took a day allowed me to be a better director hitting my ob-
jective of working professionally. I provided them with as much inspiration to keep
them passionate and energetic, and deadlines to meet my brief.
After sending out an email Joe Adams was the only student to provide a portfolio
and responded 10 minutes after asking. Joe was very professional and worked
extremely quickly and effectively. I had asked in the brief for satisfying noises such
as crispy leaves and splurgy muds. Joe was able to create something better than I
asked for and hit the brief perfectly. He communicated very quickly and we was
able to talk back and forth fast and efficiently. Joe asked for honest feedback and
I was able to give him some with constructive feedback. A failure which I think
I should have improved was sending over the final animation, I was not able to
complete the final piece and therefore Joe had to match up the steps quickly and
efficiently. Billy Pettis was the only music student to get back to me, he responded
passionately and energetically. I had asked him to think about the parade perhaps in
a folky way. He responded back with a beautiful piece of animation that explored
many instruments. The music felt mysterious and sometimes filled with tension. These
were qualities I wanted from my brief. Billy Pettis communicated with me on
Facebook more which was different to Joe Adams. I was able to see when he was
online and this allowed for a regular flow on contact.
