“ Slow going ” is something that I experience as an artist while creating and specially when I have to articulate in writing what it is that the studio practice does . I have a non verbal , embodied understanding of the work that I struggle to communicate through written words .
In an attempt to verbalise I produce a few phonemes or even words then I suddenly stop and I am forced to WAIT until I gather the momentum , grasp a thought and then , perhaps , string a small sentence together . The same happens in the process of making . The work will start moving in a particular direction and then for one reason or another it will suddenly stop . I may not be able to do what I had planned or I may not know what is required and I have to wait for the right conditions to be able to continue . The work builds itself within a series of stops and starts and very often I am waiting until the right words , the right ideas , the right tools arrive .
These series of stops and starts give the impression of a stutter .
