The Airports Authority ' s water quality program adheres to Chesapeake Bay and Virginia stormwater standards , ensuring compliance with quality and quantity requirements throughout construction endeavors .
In support of post-construction stormwater management along the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project ., the Airports Authority has embarked on an extensive planting initiative , introducing thousands of trees , shrubs and diverse plant species . Among these are the eastern red cedar ( Juniperus Virginiana ), Mt . Airy dwarf witch alder ( Fothergilla Gardenii ), and pink muhly grass ( Muhlenbergia Capillaris ). This strategically chosen vegetation serves to stabilize disturbed areas , bolster the efficacy of stormwater best management practices in pollutant removal and elevate the visual appeal of the project site .
