Promoting Sustainable Mobility
Reagan National Airport is one of the most pedestrian and bicycle-accessible airports in the country because of its connection to the 18-mile Mount Vernon Trail and the Arlington , Virginia , neighborhood of Crystal City . Capital Bikeshare continued to be a popular alternative transportation option for Reagan National in 2023 . Ridership data indicates that the Reagan National Airport Capital Bikeshare dock ranked 50th out of 110 stations in the D . C . metropolitan area and facilitated over 4,000 trips .
In 2023 , a significant milestone was reached at IAD as we greeted our 1-millionth passenger at the Dulles International Airport Metrorail Station . This achievement stands as a testament to the collaborative endeavors of the Airports Authority , the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority and the Virginia Department of Transportation in promoting the utilization of public transportation . The Dulles International Airport is the busiest Metro station on the Silver Line extension with over 1.25 million passengers during the year .
Employee Commuting Program
The Airports Authority offers many of our employees based at Reagan National , Dulles International and its headquarters building in Crystal City the option of a hybrid work model . This leads to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from commuting to the office with a personal vehicle . Moreover , the Airports Authority encourages the adoption of alternative transportation options by offering commuter benefits in lieu of parking subsidies for employees who arrive at work via mass transit or car / van pools .
Hybrid Vehicles
The Airports Authority is actively pursuing strategies to reduce fossil fuel consumption through our own operations , including replacing traditional fossil-fueled fleet vehicles with greener alternatives through the purchase of hybrid electric vehicles .
At present , headquarters office has six , Reagan National has 24 and Dulles International has 61 hybrid fleet vehicles for a total of 91 hybrid vehicles utilized by Airports Operations , consolidated functions and the Police Departments .
