Building Bridges : Sustainable Efforts in a Global Context
The Airports Authority worked throughout the year to increase awareness of its Sustainability Plan and encourage cross-functional initiatives that advance its goals . Airport officials met regularly with airline partners to discuss opportunities to collaborate on shared environmental and sustainability efforts , such as waste minimization and enhanced recycling .
During the Committee for Dulles 2023 Sustainable Infrastructure Breakfast , the Airports Authority moderated a panel featuring technical experts , industry influencers , stakeholders and community leaders discussing how the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 and the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 were being implemented to create more sustainable and resilient infrastructure . The Airports Authority provided an update on progress toward achieving the broad-based benefits of high-performance infrastructure at Dulles International and Reagan National airports .
Reinforcing our ongoing partnership with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory ( NREL ), the Airports Authority participated in the laboratory ’ s 2023 Partner Forum in Golden , Colorado , from August 21 through 23 . The theme of this year ’ s Partner Forum was decarbonizing and integrating energy systems for a clean energy future . Industry partners , researchers and leaders convened to address challenges and barriers to adapting to and expediting the changes necessary for realizing the energy system of the future .
The Airports Authority also took part in the Airports Going Green Conference in Phoenix , Arizona , from November 5 through 8 . The conference had a " Future Forward " theme highlighting the sustainability journey of learning from the past , improving the present and planning for the future . The conference is the aviation industry ’ s leading forum on sustainability , and it provided an opportunity for the Airports Authority to engage with sustainability leaders from airports across the country and from Australia , Colombia and Canada , airlines and concessions representatives , policymakers , National Renewable Energy Laboratory counterparts and experts from various supporting disciplines .
