The Immortal's Plight by Natalie Robles

His mask fractured, his beautiful face twisting into complete distress. His wail rebounded across pillars of copper, towers of iron. The features that shone from underneath his hands glowed with immortality.

The man before him stood in utter shock, his face a portrait of betrayal at the immortal who dropped to his knees before him. The rest of the masquerade revelers were screaming, cowering from the immortal who’s mask had shattered at the last chime of the clock.

The air turned frigid, the immortal’s cries shaking the earth. He had merely wanted to play mortal, to be like them.

The pillars all fell, one by one, and he could do nothing to stop it.

Quiet misery was soon echoing within the now slumbering palace of shattered columns and towers, of people turned to ash and ice and gore.

The elements had ravaged this place.

Now, only the glowing immortal remained in the ever silent darkness.
