Music is the muse Issue One - The Interview edition | Page 4
Still fantastic.
An interview with Maggie K de Monde .
I first heard of Maggie when she teamed up with Martin Watkins and formed the duo
Maggie and Martin back in 2011. I knew Martin from countless Marc Almond concerts,
as he often joins him on stage to play piano and keyboards. He also is a returning
collaborator of Marc’s, so I was thrilled to hear about his project. I immediately fell in love
with Maggie’s voice and started to investigate her musical past, which is very interesting
but more about this later.
I discovered the song No Memory, which she had recorded in the late ‘80s with her band
Scarlet Fantastic and was hooked. Not only is it a great track, which inspired many
fabulous remixes but it also seemed to have been written especially for one of my characters,
Raoul Sinclair, who is the hero of my Mirror Walker saga. He is a pop star, has magical
powers and no memories of his life before the age of 21. See, it fits perfectly. Raoul has
found his theme song and I discovered a talented artist.
One day, I decided to create this interview and send it to several musicians, who I admire
and who have inspired me. To my surprise and immense pleasure, Maggie replied and you
now have the pleasure to read the results. Enjoy!
Did music save your soul?
Yes, it did & it still does today!!
What was the first song you remember?
I listened to music from a very early age. Both my parents were avid music fans & my
mum used to love to dance with the music cranked up loud!! My dad was more of a
crooner fan so I got to listen to a very wide range of stuff including Elvis, Edith Piaf, Latin
Swing, Percy Sledge, Iron Butterfly, Frank Sinatra, Neil Diamond, Beethoven & many
more classics!!
First single/Album/CD you bought?
My first single purchase was either Woodstock (Joni Mitchell) or Band of Gold (Freda
Payne).
