Music & Dance News July/August 2019 Page 21 Last dance at The Pines is July 28 The Pines Ballroom & Bar in Bloomer, WI has announced discontinu- ing regularly scheduled monthly old-time danc- es. The last old-time dance will take place Sunday, July 28, featuring mu- sic by the Ryan Herman & Karl Hartwich Band from 1 to 4:30 p.m. While the Pines Ball- room will still be avail- able for weddings, an- niversaries, and special events, the Pines man- agement has decided to discontinue the decades- old tradition of old-time dancing, in part, due to lack of participation. For generations, the Pines Ballroom has been a social hub of the Bloomer community, a place to gather and enjoy friendship, food, refresh- ments, and great music over the years. Many memories have been made on the 50- foot-by-150-foot wooden dance floor. Brian Schwab, current owner of the Pines Ball- room, is the third gen- eration to run his family business, which he took over from his father, the late Charles Schwab; who bought out his par- ents in the 1970s. The Pines Ballroom has been a regional cul- tural center since its opening in 1933, after the repeal of prohibi- tion. Owners have hosted a variety of social events and some of the all-time greats in the old-time music industry, includ- ing the Whoopee John Band. Everyone is welcome to join the party one more time for the last regularly-scheduled old- time dance at the Pines Ballroom. Bring your friends and re-live memories of when old-time music was king.
