Resilience : How to Live 100 Russian Years

The Museum welcomes Russian Life magazine publisher and editor , Paul Richardson , for the launch of his latest documentary and companion book Resilience : Life Stories of Centenarians Born in the Year of Revolution . Richardson explores the lives of children born in 1917 , a time when Russia was wracked by political and social unrest . Yet , through it all these children survive ; their lives intricately intertwined with Russia ’ s tumultuous history .
Resilience was created by Richardson in collaboration with Russian journalists Mikhail Mordasov and Nadya Grebennikova , after the trio traveled across Russia and Eastern Europe in 2017 , interviewing 22 centenarians . Richardson will introduce the film and read a few short excerpts from the book . A Q & A and book signing will follow the showing of the 25-minute documentary . Other books by Richardson , including The Spine of Russia and Driving Down Russia ’ s Spine , will also be available for purchase .

Hammer & Silicon - Soviet
Diaspora in the U . S . Innovation Economy
Scholars Sheila M . Puffer ( Northeastern University ), Daniel J . McCarthy ( Northeastern University ), and Daniel M . Satinsky ( Independent Scholar ) come together for a moderated discussion of their latest book , Hammer and Silicon : The Soviet Diaspora in the U . S . Innovation Economy – Immigration , Innovation , Institutions , Imprinting , and Identity . The book details the untold story of emigration of Soviet-trained technical intelligentsia to the U . S . and their contributions in software , biotech , social media and medicine . Based on in-depth interviews , the book provides unique insight into innovation and high technology sectors . The discussion , moderated by Anna Winestein , Executive Director , Ballets Russe Arts Initiative , is a reflection on the many interviews the scholars conducted that highlight the impact of immigration on U . S . economic development . A light reception will follow the discussion .
Concert : Mystery , Fantasy , and Resistance with Pianist Yoko Hagano

Accomplished soloist and chamber pianist Yoko Hagano presents “ Mystery , Fantasty , and Resistance ,” a piano concert featuring an all-Russian program . From the whimsical world of a child playing with toys , to the dark reflections of a lonely November night , the program includes selections from Scriabin , Tchaikovsky , Prokofiev , and Gubaidulina . Hagano has received many prizes including All-Japan Mozart Competition and Steinway Music Society competition . She earned an Artist Diploma from the Longy School of Music , where she studied with Victor Rosenbaum and won the school ’ s concerto competition . She also completed a Performance Diploma at The Boston Conservatory , where she was a student of Michael Lewin and received the Churchill Scholarship .
