Imperial and Royal: A Lost Masterpiece
of Romanov’s Liturgical Silver
Rediscovered
Saturday, December 8, 2:00-3:00pm
Members Free, Nonmembers $15
Russian decorative arts expert Dmitry Gurevich brings to
light the history of an opulent set of Orthodox liturgical
objects on view in the Museum. Unique in many ways,
the set was a part of the State-financed dowry of the
only daughter of Russian Emperor Alexander II, Grand
Duchess Maria Alexandrovna Romanova. The objects were
considered property to both the Russian Imperial family
and the British Royal house and are the only surviving
example of decorative and applied art in the neo-Byzantine
style designed by the renowned Russian neo-Byzantine
architect architect David Grimm.
