properly . Suddenly , an idea popped up , why not put a beam of light inside a palace ! We were not showing the roof of the palace , but the beam could create a different feel in the set as it was an imaginary song . So I called up a lighting supplier in Mumbai , where they had imported some Xenon lights . I asked him to send the lights through a night flight , as the shoot was scheduled early morning the next day . When I set up the lights and put a little smoke , it was astounding . That was magic to me .
SK - So for all this , you don ’ t need bookish knowledge or techniques learnt under some DOP .

KVA - Not only that , watching through a high resolution and well calibrated monitor helps in judging the scene . Anyone can review the scenes at the end . And , most importantly it helps in correcting the mistakes for colour correction or other purposes . Today , it has become so easy that even a director could shoot few scenes in absence of a cinematographer ! ( laughs )
SK - So if anyone can shoot , then we don ’ t need a cinematographer for a film , isn ’ t it ? Today , how important is the role of a cinematographer in the production ?
