we would work it out and started sending me grooves and stuff . Watching Rahman in such close quarters , gave me experience and little courage and confidence to try composing . That ’ s when our first album , Yeh Duniya Sabki and Paarvai came out . They are fond memories , which Rahman released the album later . And , my relationship with Pravin Mani
goes till date and I continued to work in his films , composed and sang a lot .
Selvakumar - Your wish to sing with Ilayaraja , had it ever happen ?
Srinivas - Of course , I did . As soon as the songs I sang for Rahman became recognisable , people started to approach me to sing in their studios . I sang my first song with Bhavatharani in the movie Ponnuveetu Kaaran called Ilaya Nilave . ( sings ) I have sung about 10 odd songs with him , have sung a duet with him . For sake of record , I sang for him and I felt really good because he was and continues to be my inspiration as far as music is concerned . He is a true genius . I love how his tunes touch your heart , the string arrangements in each of his songs .
Selvakumar - And with Rahman , whats the first super hit song sung ?
Srinivas - Minsara Poove in the movie Padayappa actually cemented my position in playback singing industry , I would say . But before that , En Uyire , Oooh La La La are my hits though I sang with other singers like Unnikrishnan , Shankar Mahadevan . But these songs gave me a recognition within the industry . Ooh La La La was actually a big break for me , mainly because of Rajiv Menon . He suggested me to Rahman to have my voice in that song . Rahman usually likes my voice ,
