Top tips to support transition

1. Talk to your child in advance about the move they are about to make. Assure them that it's normal to feel a little overwhelmed and worried. Help them to write down their feelings ( if they're old enough ) and set aside some time each day to go through them.

2. Talk about the things that will change and the things that will stay the same to show them that not everything in life changes at transition points E.g. you'll be in a new class but Nana will still pick you up each day. You'll be in a new class but ( friend ) will still be with you. You'll be in a new class but the teacher will still love good manners, kind friends and hard workers. The homework might change but as long as you try your best the teacher and I will be pleased. You might not see ( friend ) every day but we can arrange playdates at the weekend and you will still see them at playtime.

3. Talk to your child's current teacher if they are overly worried and explain your concerns. School can assure your child has spent more time with their new teacher to get to know them and begin to feel more comfortable so that they don't take their concerns into the Summer holidays.
