2014 MYLS Recap The third annual Multicultural Youth Leadership Summit (MYLS) - held on October 29, 2014 at the Calvin L. Rampton Salt Palace Convention Center. The MYLS is a one day conference that gathers students, educators, community and civic leaders and local businesses to provide inspiration and motivation to stimulate educational success and help shape the leaders of tomorrow. This year we had 1,700 attendees from across the state. Teachers and students came from 53 different schools, representing 11 school districts and 6 counties. The Summit opened with a traditional Maori greeting followed by musical performance by students of the Mana Academy. The youth attending were excited to hear messags from both Governor Gary R. Herbert and Lt. Governor Spencer J. Cox. Governor Herbert spoke on the importance of education after high school and advised students that in this economy a high school diploma is not enough. Lt. Governor Cox told students, “You are the future of Utah; you are the future of this country…you bring ideas, you bring intelligence, you bring beauty, you bring innovation. You are changing the world and don’t let anyone tell you differently.” Mohsen Ghaffari, Utah Teacher of the Year counseled students that “Education is the only way that can open the door to freedom and prosperity.” Keynote Nicholas Carlisle, Executive Director of No Bully, shared with students that “We go through this life journey togeth
