Multicultural Voices Volume 1 Issue 1 | Page 3

Hello my name is... Humans are storytellers. When I was kid I remember hearing an old Native American proverb, “It takes a thousand voices to tell a story”. At the time I thought I fully understood this saying, I would later come to understand the true meaning. When thinking of a title to call this new publication I couldn’t help but think of the power of preserving culture and traditions through stories. Looking back on the old proverb I realized that those stories were not always told by the sound of our voice. Those stories were also portrayed through the voice of dance, art, architecture, accomplishments and so on. Today I am pleased to introduce the Multicultural Voices Magazine. In this publication we seek to capture the voices that are shaping Utah’s landscape today. By capturing these voices we can then weave a story depicting the strength in diversity here in Utah. Our communities accomplish amazing feats and “This Is The Place” to find those stories. Stanford K. Kekauoha MCA.UTAH.GOV | VOICES | 02
