you can get it down. FOCUS on one thought and call-to-action. Many go off track here by trying to shove in too many ideas. Break it down, and then break it down again. Abbreviate obvious words like“ High School” which everyone knows as“ H. S.”. Right there you just saved 7 characters. That’ s huge. Be sure and don’ t get into“ Text Speak” when you abbreviate.
Power tip: ALWAYS shorten your URL and eliminate the URL if you have added a video, which is being embedded. The link is redundant in the text portion of the post and makes your post unnecessarily long.
4. Did you ask a question?
Everyday, brands shove traditional, one way, communications down social streams that have no chance to survive. Yet, they KEEP doing it. Traditional advertising is not“ social” media. The days of communicating,“ Come try our ______ because it’ s awesome,” are OVER. You have to ask a question to get your fan involved. The trick here is you have to ask a question that is“ easy” for your fan to answer as they are being inundated with requests all day long in their stream. For example, if you are doing a post about mobile apps you could ask many things but some would give you great odds for engagement and many would not.
Low odds: What’ s the most you would spend on a mobile app? This question doesn’ t work because it’ s“ hard” to answer. It has no F. I. R. E. and has no connection to the fan. Why would they care? How does it associate with them?
High odds: Name 1 app on your phone’ s top screen you use DAILY? This is much easier to answer. Almost everyone has one and people love to brag and share things they love.
5. Did you use INFLECTION with a word by using ALL CAPS?
This is another great tactic to get attention and reaction. Don’ t use this tactic every time, but you could use it often. Use ALL CAPS in 1 word to draw attention to a word that will help trigger a response. See the example from above: Name 1 app on your phone’ s top screen you use DAILY? The key is to only do this for 1 or maybe 2 words in the post.
