COMMODORE’s REPORT
Rod Thomas
Autumn is historically Melbourne's mildest weather
wise, and a good time to get out on the water and
enjoy sailing. You can find our club program in the
2014 Members Handbook, with details and updates
on our club website and through our weekly Thursday Snippets emails.
Over the summer months our members have been
active. On the Lake we have had our usual Saturday
club racing and good numbers participating in the 8
week Learn to Sail, and Green Fleet programs on
Saturday mornings with 15 to 20 boats out each Saturday morning. A big welcome to the individuals
and families who have joined the club in the last few
months and participate in these programs.
Over December/January we had members sailing in
Australian Laser, OK dinghy, Impulse, Mirror, Optimist championships, and in March Laser Masters at
Paynesville.
Congratulations to Paul Farrell on winning the Australian Impulse titles in Adelaide. This was Paul's
third national Impulse title across the last ten years.
Congratulations also to Anita Scott Murphy and her
son Ben Cruse on their second National Mirror
Championship win in three years, this time on Sydney Harbour. Anita and her family have sailed at Williamstown in summer and Albert Sailing Club in winter over the last 2 or 3 years.
Over February/March most classes have held their
State Championships, starting with the Sabres at Somers in late February. We look forward to good representation and results for sailors from Albert Sailing
Club.
The club's general committee has met monthly, and
continues to manage the many aspects needed to operate the club for its current and future activities. A
second RIB powerboat has been purchased with another new trolley through Rod Caddaye's engineering
firm; covers have been purchased for the new RIB's,
and the old red RIB hull disposed of.
On the club facilities front a new fridge/freezer has
been purchased for the galley; attention given to clubhouse Emergency lighting and equipment; and reinstatement and rewiring of our internet services.
