OverView of 2011–2013
The past three years have been defined by significant changes in undergraduate and
graduate medical education nationwide, and the University of Missouri- Columbia has not
only embraced these changes but also is establishing itself among the leaders in innovative
methods for improving medical education and assessment.
The 2013-2014 academic year is the first year of the ACGME’s assessment of milestones in
residency training. The medicine residency program has fully incorporated these milestones
into its assessment system and has developed a new method of milestone assessment that is
being embraced by the GME community.
Our residency program trains a total of 60 residents each year. Applications to the medicine
residency program continue to grow, and as of this writing over 2,300 candidates have applied
to our categorical program. Our three-year rolling pass rate for the ABIM exam is at 87%, well
above the ACGME’s required 80% and above the national average of 85%. Preparation for
