Who was Isabel Merriman? Long overshadowed by the myths and mysteries surrounding her sister Sarah Winchester, Isabel’ s life and work have long gone unrecognized. This exhibition offers a window into the untold story of an energetic whirlwind of a woman who championed the rights of children and animals, refused to compromise her sense of justice, and left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Nancy C. Unger is Professor Emeritus of History at Santa Clara University. She has served as President of the Society for Historians of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era, and three of her four books focus on that historical period. Her op-eds applying the lessons of the past to the present have appeared in dozens of publications and websites, including The Washington Post, CNN, and TIME. Her talk“ Everyday Americans in the Gilded Age,” sponsored by the Newport Mansion Society, was presented in The Breakers, the Vanderbilt mansion. Additional appearances include Public Radio International, National Public Radio, PBS American Experience, and the BBC, and she is featured in five hour-long programs on C-SPAN.
