JGF Discipline Reporting and Records

The Missouri Criminal Code was recently updated with changes effective January 1, 2017. Previously, school districts were required to report certain serious crimes to law enforcement officials. While these remain, there are changes in the criminal code with the most notable one being the definition of third-degree assult. The new definition states, third degree assault will occur when a person "knowingly causes physical injury to another person" . Physical injury is now defined as a "slight impairment of any function of the body or temporary loss of use of any part of the body".

Students touch each other everyday in one way or another. With the update of the criminal code, if a student causes harm to another our administrators will be required to report this activity to the Ralls County Sheriff Department in addition to issuuing the discipline required in our student handbooks.Keep in mind, harm can be recognized by the student or another person if there is a bruise, loss of use of part of the body, a limp, etc. for a short or extended amount of time. This change of the definition is important to be aware of, please visit with your children about the implications of their intentional harm or even their horseplay activities at school and on the school bus each day.

Best advice for students:

Keep hands, feet & objects to yourself and you will not have to worry about harming another student at school..
