Environmental values
We work actively and diligently to protect and conserve the unique and beautiful
alpine environment and wildlife of Mt Buller and Mt Stirling resorts.
Environmental initiatives Mountain Pygmy-possum recovery
Habitat improvement for native species, resource
conservation, renewable energy use, recycling and
composting are all important tools used in our ongoing
conservation work. In one of Mt Buller’s great environmental success stories,
the population of the critically endangered Mountain
Pygmy-possum has been brought back from the brink
of extinction.
Education is also critical, and we drive a number of
campaigns including Keep Winter Cool and The Living Bin
that encourage the community and visitors to be actively
aware of, and involved in, the conservation of the alpine
environment. In conjunction with Buller Ski Lifts, Mt Buller Mt Stirling
Resort Management Board has implemented a range of
strategies to protect and enhance the population of these
precious creatures.
Triple certification achievement
In 2014 Buller Ski Lifts became the first ski area operator
in the world to achieve an “ISO Certifications Trinity”.
After receiving ISO 14001 for Environmental Management
Systems back in 2008, BSL completed the “Trinity” with
the certification of ISO 9001 and AS 4801 standards
for successful implementation of Quality Management
Systems and Occupational Health and Safety
Management Systems. This makes BSL the first ski field
operator in the world to hold all three certifications.

Activities including restoration works, revegetation,
predator control and translocation have ensured the
population will return to normal social function and
robustness.
