parents got stationed in the Philippines , moving the whole family there . This was in the ’ 80s when the Philippines was booming with IBM computer clones , which Will ’ s father used to try to bribe him to stay in the Philippines . “ I wanted to go back and graduate in the States ,” Will says , “ but my dad tried to bribe me with an IBM clone to stay . I ended up getting both the computer and moving back home to graduate , but I also got bit by the computer bug .” Speaking on this , Will mentions , “ Computers weren ’ t like they are today . Back then , you had to really get into the hardware . There were floppy disks and whatnot , but I remember the very first thing I did was overwrite my operating system so I could make it run how I wanted . This frustrated most people , but for me , it was one continual challenge after another .”
“ It ’ s important that we treat all our customers equally — nobody gets preferential treatment . Because ultimately , our mission is to help people , and we believe a collaborative approach is the best way to do this .”
but my clients ’ businesses .” And this is certainly what Blue Bay Technology has achieved over the last 20 years , now having seven employees and two technical positions open and helping hundreds of businesses achieve their goals .
So , how did Will eventually combine his love for business and passion for technology ? In all honesty , it was a slow burn . Working at Pizza Hut , Will quickly advanced from dishwasher to cook to shift supervisor , all while going to George Mason University to complete his BS / BA in Accounting and Government / Politics . Upon graduating , Will needed to decide if he would like to accept a larger management role at Pizza Hut or “ take a detour ,” as he called it . At this point , Will decided to continue his education and obtained his MBA in Business Management from the Keller Graduate School of Management . Upon graduating , he landed his first computer job at AAA as an IT support assistant in the late ’ 90s . The company was switching from mainframes to computers , meaning they had 80 computers to suddenly take care of and little support , a position which Will fell into and thrived at . After a few years , Will went to work for a dot-com company to , as he puts it , “ test my skills and see if I knew as much as I thought I did .”
While working at the dot-com company , he started consulting other businesses on the side , which began taking over his days . “ I remember my manager pulling me into the office and saying , ‘ Will , you must be smoking two packs a day because you ’ re always gone from your desk .’ In reality , I was downstairs taking so many consulting calls that I realized maybe I ought to do this for a living .” So that ’ s when Will quit his job and struck out as a consultant — something he thought would only be a short-term endeavor .
BUILDING BLUE BAY TECHNOLOGY
Will took the leap into business ownership in 2003 , but it wasn ’ t until he incorporated Blue Bay Technology in 2006 and hired his first employee that things started to fall into place . “ This wasn ’ t the path I had initially envisioned for myself ,” Will says . “ I thought I would be in financial services because that ’ s where my degree was supposed to take me . But the joys of computers kind of took over and gave me the opportunity to start my own business , and I knew I could put my MBA in business management to good use not only for my business
“ We want to work with companies who know their business goals and where they ’ re headed so that our team can help get them there . When they know this , I can help not only by implementing technology solutions but by sharing the business knowledge I have gained over the years with them . This goes both ways ; for example , I have clients I ’ ve learned an immense amount of business knowledge from ,” says Will . And this ties into one of Blue Bay Technology ’ s core values — equality . “ It ’ s important that we treat all our customers equally — nobody gets preferential treatment . Because ultimately , our mission is to help people , and we believe a collaborative approach is the best way to do this ,” explains Will . And this goes back to what Will learned as a child : there is power in equality and ensuring everyone has access to the same resources , whether that ’ s eggs or technology solutions .
Today , when Will ’ s not at work providing his clients with business and technology support , you can find him taking his three kids to Boy Scouts and spending time with his beautiful wife . “ Our business supports several local organizations , but for me , the real joy is spending time with my kids and watching them get hands-on experiences that I feel many people are missing in today ’ s society .” Because , in the end , you can take the kid out of the farm and give him the computer bug , but you ’ ll never be able to take away the values of hard work , equality and service that were instilled in him at a young age and that can now be seen throughout every corner of his business , Blue Bay Technology .
