LETTER FROM THE EDITOR
Don ’ t Be An 80 % Version Of Yourself
Our mission at TMT is to build a community of success-minded entrepreneurs that inspires excellence , encourages collaboration , and EXPANDS THE CAPACITY of all members to achieve great things .
What does it mean to “ expand your capacity ”? The definition of “ capacity ” is “ the maximum amount that someone can contain .” If you go to the gym , you have a current “ capacity ” to bench press or squat . The limit is there , and it ’ s real . But what most people never do is try to grow that capacity intentionally . They go to the gym to “ check the box ,” to get it done . To maintain . But if you want to get STRONGER , you need to STRESS your current capacity level . If you can squat 100 pounds , you probably can squat 110 or 120 pounds — so why don ’ t you ? Because you ’ re not trying to squat 110 . For you , squatting 100 is within your capacity . When you stay at 100 pounds , you get to go on autopilot . Sure , you ’ re stressing your system to a degree , but not to your capacity . Squatting 100 doesn ’ t scare you or challenge you , so you stay at the 80 % version of yourself .
When I talk to a business that is only doing $ 1 million in sales and ask them why they aren ’ t growing , I hear the usual : “ I don ’ t have the time . I don ’ t have the money . I can ’ t find the people . We ’ re already as busy as we can handle .” They are at what they see as their capacity . But it ’ s not their REAL capacity . If they had a real urgency , they ’ d suddenly dig deep and find a way to do more . The lack of time and money would disappear , and they ’ d suddenly get creative . They ’ re playing at 60 % to maybe 80 % of their current capacity and not trying to push beyond it .
As the saying goes , you never know how strong you are until being strong is your ONLY choice .
Business owners running small MSPs … techs with helpers … cling to their current capacity . They defend it . Yes , they venture out a bit but nowhere near the level they could . They “ ease ” into growth , which is why I routinely have small MSPs that are 20- and 30-year startups come to us finally fed up with their lack of progress and want to grow because their small “ lifestyle ” business is wearing them out . They ’ re still not making anywhere near the income they need and want .
But the problem they have really isn ’ t a marketing problem . Their lack of sales , profits , good people , MRR , and new clients are all springing from the way they ’ ve trained themselves to operate for the last 20 – 30 years : at 80 % of their capacity . So , the first lesson they need to learn is how to expand their capacity in dealing with overwhelm , setbacks , problems , and frustration — in dealing with multiple big projects , multiple big problems . Yes , it ’ s stressful , but stress , fear , and overwhelm are simply
emotions . They aren ’ t Jesse Itzler Presenting To A “ real ” things . They are

if you don ’ t learn how to emotionally work through those feelings , you won ’ t grow . If you won ’ t learn how to push through the resistance , pain , and strain of lifting 120 pounds , you ’ ll never grow staying at 100 .
I recently heard a business owner say he wanted to “ get rid of all the problems he was dealing with .” I told him he ought to get out of running a business now because NO business is without a set of problems . I reminded him of a favorite quote of mine from Jim Rohn : “ Don ’ t wish for less problems ; wish for more skills .”
This month , I decided to feature Jesse Itzler on the cover because he is the epitome of fearless expansion of personal capacity . I ’ ve had Jesse speak at two of my events so far , and both were brilliant , and his talk about life being like a bus ride is one you cannot miss , so I ’ ve posted it online for you to see ( see the link below ). His declaration , “ I didn ’ t come THIS far to ONLY come this far ,” is a statement about CAPACITY . What about you ? Are YOU playing the 80 % version of yourself ? Are you truly challenging yourself to grow ? Only you can answer that — but if your answer is some Hallmark card version of “ I ’ m okay as I am ,” you ’ re fooling yourself . I never met a person who is truly happy who is not pushing themselves to be a better , smarter , and more capable version of themselves .
It ’ s that voice in your head in bed at night … the unease you feel deep down … the unhappiness you cannot seem to shake . It ’ s your conscience screaming that you ’ re not truly fulfilling your full potential . Be grateful for that opportunity to expand your capacity instead of being resentful of it , and you ’ ll be amazed at the breakthroughs you create and the life you ’ ll start to lead .
