How Mario Zaki Leveled Up And Won TMT ’ s Annual Better Your Best Contest
Mario Zaki , CEO of New Jersey-based Mazteck IT , was chosen as the winner of the 2024 Better Your Best Contest at TMT ’ s 17th Annual IT Sales and Marketing Boot Camp . He ’ ll serve as the TMT spokesperson for the year and took home a brandnew Jaguar . It ’ s a hard-earned and well-deserved award for Zaki ’ s evolutionary journey from a one-man break-fix shop run from his kitchen counter with $ 0 in monthly recurring revenue ( MRR ) to a three-person MSP earning $ 142,000 in MRR and $ 2 million in overall revenue in 2023 .
Zaki describes the first 15 years of his career as the definition of content . He worked for himself , drove a decent car , and earned a decent living . “ I was fat , dumb , and happy ,” he says . But there were problems , too , like never going on a real vacation with his family . As a one-man show , he was permanently attached to his laptop . Still , Zaki imagined growing the business . He just didn ’ t know how — until a $ 1 bill appeared in the mail , stapled to a TMT marketing letter . At first , he ignored it . But while cleaning up his family ’ s Chinese take-out , he cracked open a fortune cookie that read : “ Don ’ t be afraid to take the chance when the opportunity of a lifetime appears .” Zaki took it as a sign that it was time to level up his business .
Zaki joined TMT and enrolled in their Rapid Implementation Workshop . He joined an accountability group and ran his first marketing campaign . He booked Quarterly Business Reviews and converted all his break-fix clients to managed services . Shortly after that , he added $ 28,875 in MRR . From then on , his marketing efforts never stopped . “ The more results you see , the more you want to do ,” he says . With the new income , he rented an office , hired a technician and an admin , and ran additional campaigns . Zaki leveled up again and again .
