“ I think that the combination of what we do provides an unbelievable advantage for MSPs that choose to leverage the Kaseya 365 User bundle .” — Jim Lippie
Bad actors who compromise user credentials and then infiltrate a business ’ s systems may lurk there for weeks or months before striking , Voccola says . “ That ’ s a huge risk .”
Every day an MSP is not using automated response tools , they ’ re rolling the dice with their clients ’ data . Traditional EDR and SOC tools are too slow , and by the time a breach is detected manually , the damage could already be done . CDR , with automated response and remediation , can shut down an attack in seconds .
Voccola makes this analogy : If endpoint detection and response is akin to boosting your immune system with vitamins , “ CDR is not only going to boost your immune system but also let you know when you have symptoms of diseases .” While there are a variety of solutions that offer some aspects of CDR today , SaaS Alerts is the only one that offers a complete solution for monitoring user activity , detecting threats in real time , and automatically alerting on and remediating those threats .
Why SaaS Alerts ?
For Lippie , a former MSP himself , joining forces with Kaseya is somewhat of a homecoming . Shortly after Voccola took the helm at Kaseya , he coaxed Lippie to join him as general manager and senior vice president in 2017 .
“ Jim ’ s one of the early and most knowledgeable MSP practitioners — kind of a guru , if you will ,” Voccola says . “ When I talked to him about the fundamental problems of the industry and what our vision of Kaseya is — changing the unit economics for MSPs — he said , ‘ You ’ re so right . So many MSPs aren ’ t making money .’ So we were aligned right away . He really helped turn this place around .”
Several years later , Charles Buck ( co-founder and CTO of SaaS Alerts ) and Seth Bostock showed Lippie the beta of what would become SaaS Alerts . They asked him to become CEO , and he accepted . “ I was talking to a lot of other MSPs during my day-to-day work at Kaseya that were essentially experiencing the same issues and problems that SaaS Alerts would solve ,” Lippie explains .
Under Lippie ’ s leadership , that platform has evolved significantly . “ In January of ’ 21 , we had 25 different events that we monitored for over a few different applications — 365 , Google Workspace , Salesforce , Dropbox . Today , we ’ ve got nearly 300 events that we monitor for and alert on and 24 applications ,” says Lippie . “ On top of that , we ’ ve introduced the Fortify 365 configuration piece ; Respond , which is automated remediation ; and a very comprehensive reporting module .”
Still , Lippie says he didn ’ t need to be convinced when a managing partner for Insight Partners , the private equity firm behind both SaaS Alerts and Kaseya , suggested , “ With all the traction you ’ re building , I think you ’ re more valuable inside of Kaseya as opposed to being independent . The combination of what you offer with what Kaseya already has could change the market .”
Building On The CDR Investment
Voccola says Kaseya will continue to build out SaaS Alerts . “ We ’ re going to invest a ton of money in the CDR technology . We think it ’ s super cutting edge .”
CDR will become a requirement for MSPs , Lippie believes . “ In some capacity , everyone ’ s going to need this level of functionality in their toolkit . I think MSPs have come around to the fact that they need to be thoroughly invested in cloud detection and response , because the traditional threats that we ’ ve been watching for over a decade are not the threats that are currently compromising their customers .”
As part of Kaseya 365 User , “ it gives us another thing that ’ s truly unique ,” says Mike Sanders , Kaseya chief revenue officer . “ SaaS Alerts extends our platform to make it even more powerful .”
Voccola sums it up this way : “ I was super pumped to have Jimmy back .”
