Getting to Know VECI:

An Interview with Rosye Cloud,

Senior Advisor for Veteran Employment & Acting Director of the Office of Transition, Employment, and Economic Impact

I am honored to serve as the Senior Advisor for Veteran Employment as well as the Acting Director of the Office of Transition, Employment, and Economic Impact at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). I work alongside an amazing team of professionals that work every day to make sure that our Veterans are provided every opportunity to succeed and meet their full potential. I have worked as a career federal employee for over 20 years, with the majority of those years focused on providing direct social service support to our active, reserve components and their families and leading performance improvement strategies to improve garrison operations.

Prior to the VA, I had a wonderful opportunity to support federal efforts to establish national agency priority goals and cross agency priority goals while assigned to the Office of Management and Budget. My assignments have covered a range of programs from running social service/counseling centers, family advocacy, managing global lean six sigma business transformation deployments, to policy assignments at OMB and White House. There is never a lack of opportunity to challenge yourself and add value. I often urge college graduates to not skip over the federal government as an employer…we need bold, forward-leaning change agents to join our federal ranks. The federal government provides tremendous opportunities to support our nation and make meaningful change happen.

It’s also a particularly important time to come work for the VA. Many of us have joined the VA ranks to support Secretary McDonald’s transformation of the VA. We feel a sense of urgency to put Veterans at the center of all of our programs and services.

Ms. Rosye Cloud, before we jump into questions about VA’s new initiative, please tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do every day to help our Veterans.

First of all, thank you for inviting me and the Department of Veterans Affairs team to be a part of this journal. You are providing valuable information to our Veterans and their families, and we are proud to be your partner.
