What Skills Are Needed?
Good claims resolution professionals are honest, hard-working people — much like those in the military. They must have good communication skills and be able to talk to people from all walks of life. The work can be fast-paced, so they need to be able to prioritize their workload and be efficient. Being curious is very helpful as professionals investigate each claim. They must also be honest and ethical.
Most employers will hire new claims professionals with no existing claims experience. There are a multitude of training opportunities that companies make available to their staff. In most states, claims professionals need to take a test to get licensed as a claims adjuster. Companies and organizations like ClaimVets offer that training and licensing at no cost.
Does Military Experience Translate?
Veterans probably don’t even realize how many of the skills they’ve developed in the military would be an asset for a career in claims resolution. Because there are so many lines of work within the field, there are many skillsets that transfer. These can include knowledge of:
Mechanics (car, truck, equipment)
Construction (carpentry, electrical, plumbing, etc.)
Healthcare
Information technology
Security
Investigations
So, if you’re ready to start a new career, not just a new job, check out the many opportunities available in the field of claims resolution.
