Your Career in Claims

An Exciting Industry with Growth Potential

By Susan Wisbey-Smith, Interim Executive Director, ClaimVets

Transitioning to a civilian career can at times feel challenging. Luckily, there are many companies and organizations ready to help you face that challenge. ClaimVets is a non-profit dedicated to helping veterans and military spouses establish careers in property/casualty claims adjusting.

Sound boring? It’s not. Claims resolution is a tremendous career with many opportunities for growth and diverse work.

What’s Claims Resolution?

Property/casualty claims resolution, or claims adjusting, is a fascinating field for people who enjoy helping others, investigating, and learning. Claims resolution professionals can work in a variety of fields and often have the opportunity to explore careers in multiple fields.

They can manage these types of

claims:

Auto

Home

Property

Workers’ Compensation

Professional Liability

Transportation

Cyber Liability

And many others

Claims Professionals work for the insurance company and help resolve the claims of the insured and/or injured parties. Resolving those claims often involves investigation — how extensive is the damage, where did the accident/injury occur, who is at fault, and what are the damages. After gathering the facts, the claims professional makes sure that the insured or injured party is “made

whole again” and that their damages are covered appropriately.

In resolving claims, the professional helps the person recover from the loss.
