HOT JOBS

See you later, Summer…

...Hello, Job Search!

By: Jamie Boyle

In summer, we see a dip in applicants who are actively seeking employment. This trend makes sense to us. The kids are out of

school. Families are vacationing. Families are PCSing. Summers are busy, and if you’ve managed without a job for the first five months of the year, a few more months may not really matter.

Furthermore, if you haven’t found a job, you may be frustrated, and summer can serve as a much needed break from the job search.

But as summer comes to a close, school starts back up, and PCS season dies down for most (thank goodness!), many will return to their job search.

If the thought of restarting your job search fills you with less than pleasant feelings, might I suggest you do as Nat King Cole sang, Pick yourself up; dust yourself [and your resume] off; and start all over again.”

Whether you are restarting your job search after a long hiatus, or easing yourself back in after a few months off, here are some practical steps to help you “dust yourself off” and get started.

Get Excited. Are you pumped to restart your job search? If you aren’t, you are not alone. Still, the right mindset can make all the difference. Practice self-care and think of this as an opportunity to reassess your goals and determine what you want.

Remember, perspective is key.

Assess Yourself. Do you have the necessary tools to begin your job search? If your goal has changed, do you have the training or experience to meet your goals? Do your marketing materials reflect your goals? Now is a good time to consider your position to ensure that your job search goes well.
